Colors of 2024

Jan 4th 2024 Staff

As we delve into the captivating world of 2024, our design landscape is illuminated by a diverse and inspiring color palette. Sherwin-Williams and Glidden introduce "Limitless," a warm, honey-forward neutral that encapsulates the essence of versatility. Behr presents "Cracked Pepper," a bold name for their nuanced black hues, while Benjamin Moore captivates us with "Blue Nova," a stunning blend of violet and blue. Dutch Boy brings the serene depth of a comforting green with "Ironside," and Graham & Brown's "Viridis" offers a midtone green that's both fresh and grounding. Tying these diverse hues together is Pantone's Color of the Year, "PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz," a soft, inviting pinkish-orange that speaks of gentle warmth and approachability.

Sue Wadden, Director of Color Marketing for Sherwin-Williams, sheds light on a crucial aspect influencing these color choices – the impact of lighting, particularly LED, on color perception. As Wadden explains, the coolness imparted by LED lighting has spurred a move towards warmer colors, a trend clearly reflected in hues like "Limitless." This insight is invaluable for interior designers seeking to create harmonious spaces that balance color and light.

In this context, "Limitless" thrives under wood and retro lighting trends, its warm, neutral tones offering a counterbalance to the cooler LED ambiance. "Cracked Pepper," with its deep, rich character, is dramatically enhanced by the minimalist and clean lines of architectural minimalism lighting, embodying sophistication and strength.

"Blue Nova," Benjamin Moore's color of the year, finds its true vibrancy under sculptural art lighting, where its blue-violet tones play with light and shadow, creating a dynamic and modern aesthetic. Dutch Boy's "Ironside," in its comforting green, resonates deeply with the naturalistic elements of wood lighting, evoking a sense of tranquility and connection to nature.

Graham & Brown's "Viridis," a refreshing midtone green, illuminated by coastal chic lighting, transforms spaces into serene havens reminiscent of lush landscapes and gentle seasides. Lastly, "Peach Fuzz," with its warm and approachable charm, becomes a space of comfort and soft elegance under the ornate glow of traditional and candelabra chic chandeliers.

The year 2024 in interior design is not just about color; it's about the nuanced interplay of color and light. As designers weave these beautiful hues from Sherwin-Williams, Glidden, Behr, Benjamin Moore, Dutch Boy, and Graham & Brown with thoughtful lighting choices, they create environments that are visually stunning, emotionally engaging, and perfectly balanced. From the warm embrace of neutrals to the deep resonance of greens and the vibrant energy of blues, each color, illuminated thoughtfully, has the power to transform spaces into works of art.
