Our Legacy

The House of Lights was founded in November 1963.

My wife Jocelyn and I purchased the business in February 1968. At that time, the business was located at 551 Neiman Avenue, which was a side street just east of the branch courthouse. In the mid-1970s, we expanded to 410 South Babcock.

In the beginning, we had a huge staff of five employees. From the onset, it was clear that quality employees and extremely satisfied customers would hold the key to our future success. Over the years, we have been extremely blessed to have attracted and maintained a staff of top-quality employees. Most of our staff have been long-term team members, and 20-35 years of tenure is common. Jocelyn and I have a symbiotic relationship with our staff. We depend on each other. The employees dedicate themselves to exemplary job performance, product knowledge, and outstanding customer service. As owners, we provide them with leading-edge training and systems to do their jobs. Most of all, we provide a workplace they can be proud to call home.

In 1982, we expanded to our current location at 1034 S Harbor City Blvd. We continued to grow our reach and are currently serving all of east central Florida.

In 2001, we were founding members and directors of Lighting One, which is the largest buying cooperative in the lighting industry. Not only can we purchase lighting at the very best prices, but we can also offer financing programs to the trade that are not available elsewhere. We benchmark our performance against the leaders in our industry and consistently rank in the very highest tier.

Our son Craig joined our firm in 2004 as our President. Not only did he perform as a great leader of our company, but he was most instrumental in Lighting One’s and our company’s website adoption. He also led our effort to expand into the installation business. This service offers our customers a full-service option: lighting design, delivery, assembly, professional installation, & warranty, and service after the sale.

In early 2021, our daughter Paige joined the company as President. In addition to her strong educational background, she brings exceptional people skills. She excels at marketing and advertising and has a very refined taste level. Our son Craig is still serving as our Chief Technology Officer in the company. This very strong management team, combined with our dedicated and experienced House of Lights employees, will continue to exceed your expectations.

Personally, I am very proud of what we have accomplished in just sixty years. I am most proud of my family. It has not always been easy; however, they never lost sight of doing something we all could be proud of. To our staff, we could not have done any of it without your help. To our valued customers: We appreciate any and all of your support. Your decision to choose The House of Lights is the greatest honor we could receive. To our thousands of friends: Please know Jocelyn and I are still here every day, counting our blessings!
